No makers markings are present on the cannon, carriage or caisson. The cannon measures 36 1/2" long, 6" diameter at the breech and 5" at the banded muzzle, with a 2 3/4" wide, 29 1/2" deep bore, functional touchhole and 3 1/2" trunnions. Hardwood carriage with iron strut and band reinforcement, measuring 71" wide and 90" long, with 39" wheels and a 19 3/4" main body, with mounting points for an included length of thick rope and a lunette on the limber. The caisson is of similar construction, measuring 170" long, and 59 1/4" tall, with fittings for being pulled by a group of horses, as well as an ammunition box, 19 1/4" deep, 42 3/4" wide and 18 1/2" tall, which doubles as a 2 person seat, with a hinged door on top. Included with the grouping is a barrel mop, rammer, 2 wadscrews and a set of block and tackle. According to a notarized affidavit provided by a previous owner, this cannon set was a family heirloom from Brigadier General Max Weber, who displayed it on his property and discharged it on patriotic occasions. Starting his career with the army of The Grand Duke of Baden, Weber migrated to the states and joined up with the Union Army at the outbreak of the Civil War. During the War, he participated in the capture of Fort Hatteras, was present at Newport News during the Merrimac/ Monitor fight, fought in the Peninsula Campaign and was garrison commander of Harper's Ferry. The letter also states that restoration work has been performed on this set on 3 known occasions

Rating Definition:

Cannon is very good, with a deep dark finish and minimal wear. The carriage and caisson are good, with some cracking and wear. Other issues concerning the condition are explained in the notarized affidavit.
