A) Smith & Wesson Number 1 1/2 2nd Issue Single Action Revolver

Description:

Manufactured between 1868 to 1875. Round blade front sight with notched rear sight. Barrel address stamped in one line on the barrel rib with three patent dates. Tip up frame with spur trigger and 5-shot fluted cylinder. Blue barrel, frame and cylinder. The barrel and grip strap are stamped "E E 4". Casehardened hammer and ejector rod. Finished with smooth two piece varnished rosewood grips.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel retains 25% original blue finish thinning down the length to an even gray patina. The cylinder is mostly a mottled gray patina. The frame retains 40% thinning original blue finish the balance is a mottled gray patina. The grips are fair the varnish is mostly worn. The action is fine.

Description:

Manufactured between 1860 and 1868. Standard one line markings on the barrel and around the center of the cylinder. Matching assembly number "7" on the barrel, cylinder and grip strap. Fixed sights, blue barrel and cylinder, silver frame, spur trigger, checkered hammer and smooth rosewood grips with square butt. Matching serial number stamped on the inside of the right grip panel.

Rating Definition:

Fine. Traces of original blue finish remains on the barrel all in sheltered areas the balance is now a mottled brown patina, with scattered spotting down the length. The frame retains 90% original silver plating which has taken on a pleasant aged darkened plumb patina, with a hint of brass along high points. All markings are clear. The grips are very good showing an old coat of varnish. The action is fine.
