Description:

Produced circa 1880. Top strap groove sight, with the legend "MY FRIEND PAT. DEC. 26. 1865" on the left side. Finely engraved, with a sunburst pattern on the front and atop the grip, punch-dot backed scroll engraving on the sides, and a checkered shield on the back. Matching numbers are present on the frame, cylinder and cylinder pin. This pistol is pictured on page 157 of Taylor Bowen's book "James Reid and his Catskill Knuckledusters" (lower plate, 3rd down on left).

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% original nickel plating overall, flaking gently along the high edges, with a deep patina on the exposed brass and scattered light handling marks and scratches. Mechanically needs minor adjustment, as the hammer retracts, but does not rotate cylinder. Engraving is excellent.
