Description:

Colt Model 1855 Sidehammer Revolver manufactured in 1859. The "Model 2" revolver has an octagon barrel, five-shot cylinder roll-engraved with the Cabin and Indian scene and varnished, one-piece, walnut grip. The barrel, frame and cylinder have the Colt high polish blue finish. The loading lever, hammer, cylinder pin and trigger are color casehardened with fiery case colors. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line Hartford address and pointing hand motif. The serial number, "18905", is visible on the butt, the underside of the barrel and the cylinder. All of the visible serial numbers match. The revolver is complete with the original factory case and accessories. The mahogany, American style, case is lined with maroon velvet and has five compartments. The case contains: (1) key, (2) steel screw-driver with turned wooden handle, (3) tin of 100 Eley Brothers percussion caps for "Belt and Pocket Pistols" with green paper label, (4) blued, iron, bowleg, 1855 Root Bullet Mold for .28 caliber round ball and conical bullet marked :"COLT'S/PATENT" in two lines on the spruce cutter and (5) fixed charger powder flask embossed with an eagle grasping a Model 1855 Sidehammer revolver and a powder flask in its talons. The flask body has a brown lacquer finish with embossing on both sides. The top and charger are gold plated and the spring is niter blued.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver appears to be un-fired, shows only careful storage wear and retains 95% plus of the bright original high polish blue finish. Finish loss is limited to some minor flaking on the cylinder nipple cut-outs and some light finish wear and the cylinder face and barrel edges. The hammer, cylinder pin, loading lever have 98% of the fiery case colors. The walnut grip retains nearly all of the original varnish finish with some very minor edge wear on the heels. The cylinder has all of the roll-engraved Cabin and Indian scene and the barrel markings are crisp. The action functions perfectly. The case exterior is lightly cleaned and revarnished. The velvet case lining is in good condition; wear is limited to compression marks, oil stains, from contact with the revolver, accessories, and a loose compartment divider that has been reglued. The cap tin is unopened, retains all of the brown japanned finish and has an excellent, unfaded, label. The bullet mold is in excellent condition and has 90% plus of the original blue finish. The powder flask in in near mint condition. The flask body has no dents or scratches and retains 98% or more of the original brown lacquer finish. The flask top and charger have 98% or more of the original plated finish and the spring has 98% of the fiery niter blue finish. The screw driver is in good condition but is not original to the case. This is an excellent example of a cased Colt Model 1855, Model 2, Sidehammer revolver with interior accessories that would be difficult to improve upon.
