Description:

This is an example of the 1862 Police/Pocket Navy revolver with a 3 1/2" barrel without an ejector rod originally manufactured in 1872 as a cartridge revolver. The top of the barrel is marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.", the left side of the frame is marked with two line patent marking and the left side trigger guard shoulder is marked "36 CAL". The cylinder is roll engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene. Matching serial number on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap. The replacement wedge has been numbered to match, the cylinder has no serial number and the arbor pin is a mis-match. Nickel plated metal parts and silver plated brass trigger guard and back strap, and fitted with one piece walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 80% nickel finish remaining with some scattered minor flaking and wear. There is some minor pitting on the recoil shield. The wedge and screw are a contemporary replacement. The back strap has an aged patina with a number of small dings on the butt. The front strap and trigger guard retain 40% original silver, mostly concentrated on the trigger guard bow and protected areas. The frame in the loading port is cracked from the rear to front and the crack extends into the conversion breech plate. The front sight has been ground down. The grip has been varnished and shows a few moderate dents and chips on the bottom and lower edge. All of the varnish remains. The markings and cylinder scene are clear. The action is fine.
