Description:

This is a very fine example of a military belt holster made by E. Gaylord, Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, on contract for the U.S. government. This particular holster is a left handed version (cavalry men carried swords and had to use their strong hand for the aforementioned weapon) that was regulation for the Colt Dragoon during the Civil War. The holster is made of black bridle leather with a sewn in riveted belt loop. The loop is marked "GAYLORD / CHICOPEE MASS". It has a separate cover flap with strap and finial closure and a sewn in toe plug.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The holster shows minimal wear with overall minor age cracking and the leather remains supple. The marking on the back is readable. All the rivets remain intact and the stitching is tight.
