Manufactured in 1861, the introductory year for the 1862 Police revolver. Pin and hammer notch sights, with the top of the barrel marked with the one line "NEW-YORK" address, "COLTS / PATENT" on the left side of the frame and "36 CAL" on the left trigger guard shoulder. One of the cylinder flutes is marked with the 1850 patent date. Matching serial number on the barrel, frame, grip straps and wedge. Fitted with a smooth varnished one piece walnut grip. The back strap is inscribed in fancy script lettering "Lieut. Cas. R. Stewart" and the butt is also script inscribed "Semper Fidelis" in matching script. Lieutenant Stewart has not been identified as of this writing and research should be done.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as period replated, with 95% of the nickel finish, with scattered mild dents and a few areas of flaking with brown patina. Tool marks are visible around the wedge and screws. Mild edge wear has occurred on the grip straps, with aged brass in the exposed areas. Grips are fine as revarnished, with dings and varnish loss. Mechanically very good.
