Description:

This unique shotgun was made as a sample model to be used in the engineering or sales department to show the workings of the lock mechanism. Overall length is 21 1/2", cut shortly ahead of the mid bead and less than an inch beyond the lower tang, with a 1 1/2" oval cut into the top of each chamber and a 3 1/2" section of stock deleted from the left side of the tangs, in order to expose the workings within. The underside of the frame bears the "DELUXE/ FIELD" markings. Checkered straight grip stock, with a splinter forearm and a smooth naked butt. With a photocopy of a letter from the U.S. Repeating Arms Co./Winchester Custom Shop Manager B.W. Pardee confirming that this shotgun was used for an engineering or sales sample as indicated by the serial number being on the left side of the water table. Pardee also explains that the stock, forearm, and trigger plate are serialized to another gun because the factory simply used parts that were in existence at the time to produced this factory cutaway shotgun. Included with the shotgun is a pair of semi-transparent dummy cartridges and a wooden display board for the shotgun. Featured in a article in Petersen's Shotguns September 1998, page 26. Also pictured on the cover of Cada Journal April 1992 (the journal is included). Formally from the Peter and Patty Murray collection.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as factory refurbished, with 98% of the blue finish, showing minimal handling marks and spotting. Stock is equally very fine, with a few tiny pressure dents. The trigger purposely does not function, but the other feature such as the safety and barrel lever do. The Model 21 was the pinnacle of Winchester engineering.
