This is a nice example of a custom engraved double barrel shotgun done by Ralph P. Bone Master Engraver of Owasso, Oklahoma. The shotgun shows no makers markings and has a number of British proofmarks on the barrel flats, including "crown/BV", "crown/BP", "crown/BNP", a crossed scepter proof and marked "NITRO PROOF". The water table has two "crown/ BV" and "crown /BNP" proofmarks. A 2" wedge on the breech end of each barrel, the receiver, trigger guard and break lever feature floral scroll engraving with a matte background. The breech end of the barrels and edges of the receiver are highlighted with gold wire inlay, the muzzle end has a thin gold inlaid band and there are gold inlay relief quail on the sides and bottom of the receiver. The forearm hardware has engraved leaf designs with gold wire inlay accents. The barrels feature a concave smooth solid rib with a single brass bead sight, 3" chambers, choked extra full/improved cylinder with ejectors. The shotgun is mounted with replacement extra fancy French select walnut forearm and straight grip stock with fine checkering and finely checkered bare butt. The shotgun is complete in a Marvin Huey deluxe oak and leather case with engraved brass fixtures, a brass initial oval and Marvin Huey gun case (no 304) plaque on the outside of the lid, leather corner protectors, olive green chamois or suede lining, gold embossed leather Ralph Bone Gunmaker label affixed to the inside of the lid, leather handle and lined canvass outer cover. In the case are two rosewood handled screwdrivers, and brass oiler with engraved lid, two brass snap caps and a two piece wood and brass cleaning rod with attachments. Also with the gun is a custom made Ralph P. Bone framed wooden sign that was made by Bone and according to the accompanying letter from Mr. Bone, a sign that he first used at the Denver NRA show in 1981 and for years after. The shotgun is accompanied by a letter from Ralph Bone on his letter head detailing and estimating the work he did on this gun. LOP 14 5/8".
Custom embellished with 98% plus blue on the barrels. The trigger guard retains 70% blue with the tang fading to a gray. The wood is near mint. The case, accessories and sign are all excellent.
