Description:

This is a solid example of a deactivated WWII British manufactured MKII STEN submachine gun. These SMGs were the workhorse of the British and United Kingdom forces through out WWII to include many US, and Free French Resistance force as well as Allied paratroopers and special operations units. They were produced in several configurations with the MKII being the most widely used and remained well into service with the British, Canadian Aussie and Indian Armies well into the 1970s until they were replaced by the Sterling SMG. They operate in a simple blow-back manner and can be fired in both a semi-automatic and fully automatic mode. They have three basic machined parts; the barrel, barrel bushing and bolt with the various remaining parts all produced from sheet metal stamping all welded together. It is estimated that well over 1million were produced with an estimated manufacturing cost of approximately $9.00 each. These SMGs proved to be so cheap and easy to produce that even the Germans developed a very similar configuration late in WWII as a substitute for the MP40 MG. They were produced by two primary factories, BSA Shirley and the Royal Ordnance factory at Fazakerley, the later factory having produced this specific SMG. This is a fairly early production model that obviously saw service somewhere, with the top of the magazine well marked "STEN MKII" with the underside marked with the serial number and "FL" prefix of indicating Fazakerley manufacture next to "M/87". The underside of the magazine well and front top end of the perforated barrel shroud have a single small British Broad Arrow proof mark. This example has the desirable wire loop style stock and is complete with one original WWII 30 round stick magazine. The SMG was deactivated by a simple weld plug in the bore with a single tack weld on the underside of the barrel bushing, which does not distract from the originality of the weapon. NOTE: This is a fully transferable NFA Class III Firearm currently on a Form 5. You are required to check your state and/or local laws as to whether or not you may own this. This weapon can be transferred to a Class III dealer at no charge. Buyer pays all other transfer fees and stamps.

Rating Definition:

Fine as deactivated overall with 30% of the original British black painted finish having worn off leaving a old dark brown patina color. The weapon can be cocked and dry fired and disassembled except for the barrel. A very nice example of a scarce original WWII British production MKII Sten SMG.
