Description:

This is a representative example of a late WWII Auto Ordnance Thompson Submachine gun as used by military forces from WWII through Korea, and even into Vietnam. This model was the wartime expedient version of the original and very famous 1921/1928 Colt and Thompson submachine guns that were produced in the early 1920s and 1930s, that were used during the depression era gangland wars. Although there are several differences between this M1 version SMG and the early 1921 and 1928 models, these were still a very robust and completely reliable SMG. This is exactly the same type of SMG that was carried in the movie "Saving Private Ryan". The primary differences between this WWII M1SMG and the earlier versions are as follows: 1) the cocking handle was moved to the side of the upper receiver, 2) they removed the rate reducer and "H" piece from the bolt and actuator assembly, 3) they removed the cutts compensator on the end of the barrel, 4) they removed the cooling fins on the barrel, 5) it has the fixed buttstock (not removable), 6) it has the standard fixed front sight and the simple sheet metal rear sight with protector ears on each side. The left side of the receiver is marked: "THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN/CALIBER 45 M1/ 152151", with the "Thompson Auto-Ordnance Bullet" logo on top. While the right side has the two line "AUTO-ORDNANCE CORPORATION/BRIDGEPORT CONNECTICUT, U.S.A." company address. The front section of the upper receiver has the small Crossed-Cannon Cartouche of the US Army Ordnance Corp. over the initials "FJA" which was the acceptance stamp of Frank J. Atwood the US Army inspector This M1 version still retains the separate firing pin and the regular hammer assembly, unlike the later M1A1 versions that went to the fixed firing pin, functioning in a straight blow-back operation mode. It is fitted with the standard walnut horizontal forend with finger grooves, smooth walnut pistol grip and buttstock. It is complete with a KERR canvas sling and two stick magazines. NOTE: This is a fully transferable NFA Class III Firearm currently on a Form 4. You are required to check your state and/or local laws as to whether or not you may own this. This weapon can be transferred to a Class III dealer. Buyer pays all other transfer fees and stamps.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as refinished with 99% of the professionally restored/reparkerized dark charcoal color metal finish. The various factory markings and US Army inspector proofs are clear and distinct. There is a very small area of fine pin-prick pitting on the upper left front section of the receiver and the front sight. All the metal surfaces have an old hard protective grease/preservative coating on them, preserving the parkerized finish. The three walnut components, forend, pistol grip and buttstock are all in excellent condition with a nice medium brown matching color overall, with minimal or no handling marks anywhere.
