Description:

This is a very nice example of an all original and complete late WWI German Artillery rig as manufactured by the DWM factory, that is complete with an original 1915 Artillery leather holster, walnut board stock, double magazine pouch, shoulder straps, two magazines and a drum magazine. These Artillery Lugers were issued as a rifle substitute to artillery units and as you can see this lot is complete rig. This pistol has the original DWM rust blued finish with straw colored small components, with finely checkered walnut grips. The top of the chamber is dated "1918" and the front toggle link is marked with the script "DWM" monogram. The right side of the receiver is stamped with three "crown/letter" proofs with the larger Imperial Eagle acceptance stamp. An Imperial eagle firing proof is also stamped on the right side of the barrel. This pistol has the standard artillery style tangent rear sight graduated from 1-8 (100-800) meters along with the inverted "V" front sight with the scarce "fine tuned" adjustment feature on the right side. The front of the frame and left side of the barrel extension have the full serial number with letter suffix (461a) and the various small parts are correctly stamped with the last two digits of the serial number. The holster is early all brown leather version that is marked on the lower front portion of the holster; "ERNEST SIEGEMUND/DRESDEN/1915" that is fitted with an original (non-matching) flat walnut artillery shoulder stock. The attaching iron is marked "1711l" and the left side of the stock has a single "Crown/D" script proof mark. The stock is fitted with a brown leather flap closure and brown leather stock boot with strap, and is complete with an original set of shoulder straps and a nice matching dark brown leather double magazine pouch. The magazine pouch has two original wooden base, nickel plated luger magazines inside "6746 d and 5015" respectively. As noted this rig is complete with an original type two 32 round drum magazine. The back of the magazine is marked "612787". This is another accessory that was intended specifically for Artillery lugers and submachine guns to increase their fire power. This rig is complete with one artillery cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Excellent rig with 97% of the original blue finish on the pistol, wear on the edges and high spots overall, blue loss on the front of the frame rails, the side plate hump, the edges of the trigger guard and top of the stock lug. The various small parts retain 75% of their straw color overall with some light dulling in spots. The grips are excellent overall with nice sharp checkering with light wear across the tops of the checkering. The pistol itself has all matching numbers except the magazines. The leather holster is in fine condition with a nice dark brown matching color with clear sharp markings on the front with light scuffing and color loss on both corners of the flap, with some minor scratching and nicks overall. The double magazine pouch and leather straps are also in very good condition showing nice color with more scuffing and wear overall. The two wooden base magazine are both in near excellent condition with nice nickel plate finish with both wooden bases showing light wear overall with clear markings. The drum magazine is in very good overall with 95% of the original finish overall, with 40% blue remaining with the balance having turned a plum/brown patina, with some minor light dents/nicks in a few places on the magazine body itself. A very nice complete WWI Artillery Luger Rig.
