Description:

This is an excellent example of Wehrmacht General's dress uniform. The high quality, field gray wool tunic has six, gold, pebble finished buttons and a dark green collar with gold bullion general officer's insignia on a carmen red background. The gold and silver wire shoulder boards have a carmen red background and a pair of pips mounted on the top. A gold bullion eagle/swastika national insignia on a dark green background is sewn on the right side above the breast pocket. Red trim is present down the front, around the collar and on the cuffs, with the named tailors label "Aerbeck & Broskamp/ Berlin.W./Herr Gen. von Schwedler/Nr 123 den 2.4. 194 0" on the inside of the interior left breast pocket. With a pair of gray trousers with wide red piping down the sides, and a General officers cap, field gray with green band and gold trim. Also included is a large quantity of correspondence and other documents related to General of Infantry Viktor von Schwedler. One of the items is a large leather bound handwritten volume, describing the towns in Military District IV, with photographs. The second page of the volume is the presentation page and names von Schwedler as the Commander of both the Fourth Army Corp. and as the Commander of Military District IV, with the second page being a water colored portrait of the General. Some of the documents included are the General's personal copies of the battle plans, with maps, for some of the battles his corp fought. Born in 1885, von Schwedler graduated from military academy in 1904, and was a staff officer by the time WW I broke out. After the War, he remained on with the reduced German military, working his way up the ranks until he reached General of Infantry in 1938, receiving command of IV Army Corps. He was later placed in command of Military District 4, Dresden, and though he was relieved of duty at the end of January, 1945, he resumed command to restore control and order following the 13-15 February Dresden Carpet Bombing. The consignor notes that all items with the exception of the black and white photograph, in this lot came directly from the von Schwedler family. Also included with this lot is an outstanding ribbon bar not attributed to Viktor von Schwedler. The ribbon bar has the following ribbons; Iron Cross (2nd Class), War Merit Cross (2nd Class, Swords), Order of the Red Eagle (Swords), two army service ribbons, Austrian, Czech & Memel Anschluss, and three others. Even though the ribbon bar was not attributed to Viktor von Schwedler it compliments this truly Historic Nazi General's Uniform.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with a few mild handling marks and areas of soiling.
