Manufactured in 1895, the second year of production with takedown configuration and special order features. The rifle has a slightly tapered 24" barrel which measures approximately 9/16" at the muzzle. Raised beaded blade patent marked front sight, replacement marble adjustable folding leaf rear sight, and Marble tang peep sight. Left side of barrel is marked with the two line address/patent marking, two line nickel steel marking, and ".30 W.C.F.", with a later production oval factory proof present on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech (sent back to factory for reasons unknown) Short magazine tube with the 1893 patent date marked on the takedown lever. Nicely figured checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with factory hard rubber grip cap, steel forend cap, and factory hard rubber shotgun style buttplate. The accompanying Cody letter verifies the serial number, extra light, takedown rifle configuration, 30 caliber, 24" round barrel, plain trigger, plain wood, checkered stock with pistol grip, shotgun butt with rubber buttplate, 1/2 magazine, that it was received in the warehouse on August 30, 1897, shipped the next day on order number 13781 and repaired and returned on March 8, 1898 on work order number 5280.

Very fine. The barrel, magazine, and forend cap retain 95% factory blue finish thinning to a gray patina. The receiver and bolt retain 70% original blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The takedown collar has a smooth gray patina. The hammer and lever retain 40% original case colors with the balance a smooth gray patina. The wood is fine with exception of a long hairline crack on comb near buttplate, a repaired chip in the grip area (left side), and a series of minor dings on the buttstock (right side), along with some minor dings and scratches overall. The checkering remains crisp overall. Mechanically excellent.
