Description:

Rifle-Musket by Barnett. A typical example of the commercial Pattern 53 Rifle-Muskets manufactured for the Federal and Confederate Armies during the Civil War with Snider cartridge conversion. The left side, rear of the barrel, receiver and breechblock are marked with British proofs (including "crown GP" and "crown / V") and broad arrow "WD" on top of the breechblock. The lock is marked "BARNETT/LONDON" in front of the hammer. Blade front sight on block, military rear sight graduated to 800 meters, brass trigger guard and buttplate, iron cleaning rod and mounted with a full straight grip stock with three iron barrel bands. The left flat is stamped "W.R".

Rating Definition:

very fine. The lightly oxidized barrel has a dark patina. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth mottled brownish patina. The brass has a dark aged patina. The stock is excellent with a few minor dings and scratches. The edges of the flats are sharp. Mechanically excellent. Crisp markings.
