Description:

The octagon barrel gauges at approximately .62 caliber and has fixed sights with a 6 1/2" long groove extending from the rear sight to the barrel tang. The barrel also has an engraved band at the breech and engraved accents ahead of the rear sight on the top flat, behind the rear sight on the upper left and right flats, and surrounding the front sight. The lock plate has a detailed engraved woodland game scene. A hunter with a spear and three hunting dogs are attacking a rearing bear. In the distance is a cowering bear cub with limbs tightly wrapped around a tree. Double set triggers and finger groove trigger guard. The full length stock features an elaborate deep relief carved scroll pattern accented with brass studs. The left side of the buttstock incorporates a violent wilderness scene showing a bear defending herself against a pack of five furious canine-like creatures. In the distance is a bear cub attempting to seek safety in a tree. The wooden patch box on the right side also features the studded scroll carving along with a hunting dog. ''C.U.B. SCHAROLD WURZBURG 1876,'' is written in ink underneath the aforementioned sliding patch box lid. (Origin unknown, possibly a collector of that period?) The tip of the forearm has three brass bands. Stock has a bare butt with carved scroll pattern. Complete with a wooden ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The wheel lock has a smooth brown-gray patina with some pin point pitting (mostly on the lock plate). The lock engraving is crisp. The stock is very good with exception of a 7 1/2" long crack on the underside of the forearm, a few scattered hairline cracks, and a minor chip missing near the muzzle (right side), along with some minor handling marks. The rear ramrod pipe is absent.
