Description:

Manufactured early 17th century. Two staged barrel with a blade front sight, with a shallow dovetail for a rear sight. The barrel is secured by a single thin metal barrel band, with octagon breech becoming polygonal, then to round, and marked with indistinct makers mark, a faint proofmark on the upper left flat and the initials "IB" directly ahead of the tang. No markings are present on the long rectangular lockplate, with a swiveling flashpan cover, flash shield, fenced pan and spring loaded stylised monsters head match holder with a wing screw for setting the position of the match. Smooth stock, with a paddle shaped butt with thumb cut-out, foliate finial on the triggerguard, forend straps which are also formed as ram rod pipes, metal tip, thin metal buttplate secured by tacks and a wooden ram rod.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with a mixed gray and brown patina on the steel overall. Stock is fair as repaired, with several nailed-in chips and mended cracks. Mechanically very good.
