Description:

Manufactured in 1871, the first year of production, this Colt Open Top Pocket Revolver features a fine New York engraving in Nimschke style. This early Colt shows original and well executed Nimschke style scrolls that are very profuse and well accomplished on the sides of the frame, cylinder, and 1 3/4" wedges on the barrel sides at the breech. The top of the barrel has the two line Hartford address flanked by Maltese crosses with a line and dot embellishment. A line and dot engraved motif is also featured on the back strap. There is a fan pattern on the recoil shields, engraved embellishments around the hammer, on the left side of the barrel lug and ejector rod housing, and engraved scallop and dot bands at the muzzle and on the cylinder. Matching serial number on the frame, cylinder, and barrel. Fitted with pearl grips.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel and cylinder have a smooth gray patina. There is some pin prick pitting and upon close inspection there is a slight hairline crack near the muzzle. The ejector rod and front sight are missing. The frame retains heavy amounts of original silver plating under the grips, with the exposed brass having an attractive untouched aged patina. The grips are very good with some light chipping along the edges and some scattered minor handling marks, along with a repaired cracked right panel. The action needs work as it does not hold a full cock the position.
