Manufactured in 1940. The accompanying factory letter verifies the serial number, caliber, barrel length, blue finish, with grips "Not Listed". The revolver was 1 of 2 shipped on April 27, 1949 and charged to Administrative Expense, Mr. G.H. Anthony, President of Colt and was presented to Mr. J. Spencer Love, the Chairman of the Board at Burlington Mills Corporation in Greensboro, North Carolina. The remarks state that the revolver was returned to the factory on December 12, 1949 and re-invoiced on April 13, 1950. At that time it was charged to the Arms selling Expense Account and shipped to William Purtell, President of Holo Krome Shaw Corporation, West Hartford, Connecticut, who in turn presented it to George N. Craig, National Commander, American Legion in Indianapolis, Indiana and the 39th Governor of Indiana from 1952 to 1956. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line address, the left side is marked "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 45", and the two line, three patent dates are marked on the left side of the frame followed by the Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, right side of the grip straps under the grip and on the inside of each grip panel. The loading gate is numbered "248". Standard blade front and frame notch rear sights, and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top. Included in this lot is a Woodsman hinged lid Colt box with the gold embossed Rampant Colt on the lid and a shipping box.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrel and ejector housing retain 97% original blue finish with some thinning on the muzzle and outer edge of the ejector housing. The cylinder retains 95% original blue finish with some wear on the front face, some minor scratches around the cylinder and prominent drag line. The grip frame retains 90% original blue finish with wear on the edge of the back strap and some thinning to plum, with some areas of smooth gray patina on the front strap and inside area of the trigger guard. The frame retains 95% original case colors with some gray patina on the recoil shield. The grips are also excellent with some minor handling marks and crisp checkering. The action is excellent. With the exception of the lid having separated with three split corners and some heavy edge wear, the box is good. A well documented Colt Single Action Army revolver that was presented by Colt to prominent people of the time. History / Documentation is included.
