Description:

Establishing himself in New York circa 1811, Edmund March Blunt was one of the first domestic producers of navigation and surveying gear, a field dominated by European concerns at that time. Brass construction, with the arc engraved "Blunt New York" and graduated from zero to 130 degrees with markings for each 1/6 of an individual degree, and the arm is equipped with a magnifier for using these tiny markings. The horizon mirror is fitted with 3 shade glasses, the index mirror with 4, and the telescope is interchangeable. With a hardwood storage case, 3 telescopes and a screw-on sunshade.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with a mixed aged patina on the brass, a thin crack in the handle, and some wear on the graduations. Case shows some mild cracks. Some rust on the backs of the mirrors.
