Description:

Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army revolver with William F. Cody ("Buffalo Bill") associations. A note on an old piece of paper glued to the inside of the left grip reads: "THIS REMINGTON SILVER PLATED/44-40 WAS GIVEN TO ME BY MY/UNCLE BILL CODY (BUFFALO BILL)/JULY 1889./ NELSON DECKER/ASH ST. BEDFORD O." A letter from the consignor states that he received the revolver from his grandfather, Thomas Riddles. The letter further states that the revolver was given to his grandfather by a friend, Mac McGarity and that McGarity was related to Buffalo Bill's nephew, Nelson Decker. The letter states that Riddles, McGarity and Decker were all residents of Bedford, Ohio. Included with the revolver is a copy of a page from "BUFFALO BILL AND HIS WILD WEST" by Joseph Rosa and Robin May. A marked paragraph states: "Fate found Cody in Denver visiting his sister, Mrs. May Decker". The letter from the consignor notes that May Decker was Nelson Decker's mother. Also included with the revolver is a copy of a Water Works Map of Bedford, Ohio, which shows the location of "Ash St.". The single action revolver has a the distinctive web contour on the underside of the ejector housing, lanyard ring on the butt and two piece walnut grips. The revolver has a full nickel plated finish. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "E. REMINGTON&SONS. ILLION.N.Y. U.S.A." in a single line reading toward the muzzle. The batch number "55" is stamped on the left side of the butt between the grips and on the inside of the loading gate.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period replated. It retains more than 90% of the aforementioned nickel plated finish. Some scattered pitting is visible beneath the finish on the frame, hammer and cylinder. The grips have been heavily sanded and re-finished and show moderate-heavy handling wear. On should exercise caution when purchasing antique firearms with stories, but sometimes they yield good results as this revolver could.
