Marked "MODEL / 1873 / eagle head / crossed arrows / US" on top of the high arch breechblock, eagle/shield motif next to "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1873" on the lock plate in front of the hammer (two click tumbler). Folding ladder rear sight with stepped base graduated 1-4 on the right side and raised blade front sight. Carbine style stock with single barrel band, saddle ring bar with ring on the left side, and correct buttplate without a compartment.

Rating Definition:

Very good as arsenal refinished. Overall the metal surfaces have a smooth dark brown patina with the lock plate retaining 80% arsenal blue finish. There is some minor pitting (heavier concentrations on the trigger guard and front barrel section). The sanded and reoiled stock is very good with some chipping and a missing sliver around the lock plate, a few gouges, and some minor dings. Mechanically fine. The interesting feature of this Model 1873 carbine is that it still retains its original features despite going through an arsenal refinish.
