Description:

This is a solid example of an Arsenal upgraded U.S. model 1873 trap door carbine. Blade front and later production model 1879 "C" marked ladder rear sight with "V/ P/ eagle head/ P" proofs on the left side of the barrel near the breech. Low arch breechblock marked "U.S./ MODEL/ 1873". Model 1879 lock plate marked with the eagle/shield motif and "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" with three-click tumbler. Smooth model 1879 short wrist stock with sling ring, 2-piece trigger guard and steel "U.S." marked buttplate with compartment.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel and barrel band retain traces of original blue finish and the hammer, lock plate, and trigger guard retain 60% original blue finish with the overall balance a smooth gray patina. The breechblock retains 70% of the case colors. Overall there is some scattered minor spotting and pitting. There is a minor crack radiating from a sling bar base, otherwise the stock is fine with some scattered minor pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
