Description:

Also known as the Hotchkiss Magazine Gun or the Model 1883, this was the first bolt action made by Winchester. This particular rifle is a First Model with the safety and turn button magazine cutoff located on the right side of the stock above the trigger. The left side of the receiver wall is marked with the three line address/patent dates. Blade front and "ski-slope" tangent rear sights, with "WWK / R / US / (anchor)" and "V/ P/ (eagle head)" marked at the rear. Smooth straight grip stock with no visible markings. With a "US" marked socket bayonet with scabbard.

Rating Definition:

Good. The rifle is mostly a smooth brown patina with a gray patina on the trigger guard and buttplate. There is extensive bayonet wear on the barrel and some very scattered minor pitting. The revarnished stock is good with crazed varnish, some minor dings and scratches, and a few minor gouges. There is a minor crack near the safety/turn button magazine cutoff and a repaired long crack on the opposite side. Bayonet retains 40% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina with some minor pitting and spotting. Mechanically fine.
