Description:

Manufactured from 1865 to 1866, this particular Spencer 1865 carbine is the more desirable variant which lacks the stabler cut-off. The top of the receiver is marked "SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON, MASS. / PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860". The top of the barrel at the breech is marked "M. 1865" and the letter "W" is marked on the left side. Standard ladder type military rear sight graduated to 900 yards, sling swivel on the barrel band and butt and saddle ring bar with ring mounted on the left side. Smooth forearm and straight grip stock with no visible markings.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel has a mottled brown patina with a darker patina on the remaining surfaces. There is some minor spotting and pitting. The lightly sanded, revarnished wood is fair with some minor dings and scratches along with a few hairline cracks on the forearm and a couple gouges on the buttstock. Mechanically good.
