Low-arch breechblock, marked "US / MODEL / 1884", with the eagle/shield motif next to "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" on the lock plate. Smooth straight grip stock, with two "U" marked barrel bands, "40" stamped on the comb and a "U.S." marked buttplate. With cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Fine as Arsenal refurbished, with 85% of the blue, showing some mixed discoloration on the barrel bands, brown and gray patina on the barrel concentrated at the muzzle, brown on the receiver area, and scattered dings and handling marks overall. The breechblock has turned a dark color. Mechanically needs work, as the hammer catches on the safety notch. Stock is a lightly sanded re-oiled earlier production replacement, with a few spots of paint around the upper tang and minimal pressure dents.
