Note the lack of a Winchester marking. This was equipped with a saddle ring on the left side of the receiver below the Mason designed safety and cut off levers. Smooth straight grip stock with a single barrel band and a smooth buttplate. The accompanying copy of the Cody Firearms Museum Records sheet verifies serial number 34354 as a "HOTCH" model, carbine, "M83" caliber, 20" barrel shipped 11-29-1884 to order number 17638. Reportedly only two known, but not verified.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% original blue on the barrel and 75% bright casehardening colors on the action, showing some fading of the colors, areas of brown patina on the barrel and scattered handling marks and spotting. The rear sight is a replacement, probably from one of the military contracts. Some dings and splinters are visible on the forearm, otherwise the wood is very fine. Mechanically excellent.
