Description:

Produced in 1881-1882, as one of 990 made. Blade front and an "R" marked Buffington rear sight, with the breech area marked "W.W.K/ R/ US/ (anchor)/ V P (eaglehead) HN." and the left side of the receiver marked with the three-line Winchester address and Winchester & Hotchkiss patent dates. The bolt handle and lug are also marked "HN.". Smooth straight grip stock, with 2 barrel bands, sling swivels and "I9" on the comb immediately ahead of the buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 30% of the original blue finish, showing moderate handling wear and thinning of the finish with a dark age patina. The stock is fine as reoiled, with a crack in the right side near the bolt repaired with pins, mild dings and a few small chips. Mechanically fine.
