Description:

Established in 1921 for the SA and 1928 for the SS, the rank of Sturmbannfuhrer was comparable to that of Major in the Wehrmacht. White wool construction with white satin inner lining, the interior of the coat bears the labels "K. Neagle/ TURINGEN" near the collar, "K. NEAGLE/ TURINGEN/ Herr: A. MASARIE/ Datum 15.11.44. No.77" inside the right inner pocket and the RZM/ SS "ROCK SS" label, numbered "1482" and "12713", inside the left pocket. Arzelino Masarie was born October 10, 1912 in Nuremberg, Germany. Nicknamed Lino, Masarie volunteered to join the SS and was posted to the 3rd SS Panzer Division Totenkopf. He served in the Waffen SS from 1939 to 1944, at the rank of Sturmbannfuher (Major). He was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross, which was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership by Nazi Germany during World War II. Masarie was in command of the 1st Company, 3rd SS Panzer Reconnaissance Battalion before taking over command of the Reconnaissance Battalion in 1942. He was awarded the aforementioned Knights Cross while in command of the Battalion in April of 1944. During his service he was wounded three times, May 1942, August 1943 and wounds he died from in August of 1944. while in service Masarie was also earned the Iron Cross (1st & 2nd Class), German Cross in Gold, General Assault Badge, Wound Badge and Eastern Front Medal 1941/42. We have no explanation for the later date on the label inside the jacket. The exterior of the coat bears the silver cord accent on the right shoulder, deaths head and 4-pip tabs on the right and left lapels, respectively, early pattern swastika armband with red field, white cloth circle and black satin trim and swastika on the left sleeve, and the silver threaded black death's head wristband. Also included are a pair of black trousers with white trim and RZM label numbered "4100/ 19416" and a summer cap, white cloth with black velvet headband, metal eagle and death's head badges, silver chin cord, brown leather sweatband and white lining with "J.B.Holzinger/ Uniformen/ Berchtesgaden/ Frischluft/ D.R.G.M.1419752" marked plastic diamond and "SS- Stubaf./ A. Masarie" tag.

Rating Definition:

Coat is very fine, with a few tiny stains on the exterior. Mild staining is present on the inside of the cap. Pants are also very fine.
