Description:

This is an excellent example of an original WWII Inland produced "T3" Carbine. This is the original Infrared model carbine that was developed and early/mid-1944 that was fielded in late-1944 for use with the early model M2 Infrared sniper scope. These were produced on an extremely limited basis with an estimated quantity of only "1000" ever produced in their own serial number range. As all carbine collectors know 99.9% of all these carbines were demilitarized by torch cutting after WWII, however this has a correct, original uncut T3 receiver. As noted, these T3 carbines were specifically designated to use with the original M2 Infrared Sniper Scope that had the large infrared emitter lens mounted on the underside forend of the stock, with the smaller M2 detector scope mounted on top of the receiver. The primary difference between these T3 carbines and the standard M1 carbine, (aside from the scope mounting position) is that they all had a one piece integral scope base brazed and pinned on top of the receiver. This integral base may have been one of the primary reasons for the removal and demilitarization of this model from Army inventory as it was later replaced by the standard M3 Infrared Sniper scope conversion package, that had the separate long mounting bar, that would allow any standard "M1" carbine to be converted for use with the infrared scope and then reconverted back to it's original configuration. This one-piece, integral scope mount forced a relocation of the model number from the top of the receiver to the right rear side of the receiver. This carbine has the following markings; top of the barrel is marked; "INLAND MFG. DIV./GENERAL MOTORS/3-44" and the right side of the receiver is marked, "U.S. CARBINE/CAL. 30 T3". The top rear portion of the receiver is marked "INLAND DIV/0329". The receiver has the original one-piece mounting bar directly on top of the receiver that was brazed or pinned on. The front mounting scope band of the M2 scope has the inverted foot that locks in place on the front of the mount, with dual screws on the rear to adjust for windage. The top of the scope has the small brass nomenclature plate that is marked; "CORPS OF ENGINEERS, U.S. ARMY/SNIPERSCOPE M-2/ BELL AND HOWELL COMPANY CHICAGO, ILL./CORNELL DUBILIER ELECTRIC CORP. PLAINFIELD N.J." with the side of the plate marked; "SERIAL NO./M-2 1395-50". The carbine is fitted with the following Inland Div parts: an unmarked type two barrel band, a flat blued bolt with the left locking lug marked "A.I."; the trigger guard is a type 3 or 4 with the standing "INLAND" manufacturers mark facing to the rear of the trigger guard, R.I. marked sear, a blued "H.I" marked hammer, a blued, smooth face M1 magazine release, marked E.I. with the capital letter "M" on the side, and a parkerized unmarked push button safety. The operating slide is also the correct version with the underlined "P.I." mark inside. The carbine is fitted with an original "IO" marked two rivet handguard and a marked, correct style T3 carbine stock. The left side of the stock above the pistol grip area has correct style switch plate an flat switch/lever to actually turn on the scope. The front portion of the stock has the large squared off, bulbous forend, where the M2 Infrared emitter lens and pistol grip assembly is mounted. This T3 Carbine M2 Infrared Sniper rig is complete, with an original WWII sling, and early M1 Carbine flash hider that is marked "FLASH/HIDER T-23/CARBINE/CAL.- 30", the separate M2 Snooper scope pistol grip assembly, which converts the infrared scope to a hand held version, an original canvas carrying case for the complete carbine and infrared scope when assembled, six various operator, maintenance, field, and ordnance manuals, four spare bulbs for the scope, the canvas sling assembly for the carrying case (which is missing) and a home made display stand.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 99% of the GI green/gray parkerized finish on the metal parts, the bolt retains 90% of it's original blued finish, with minor wear/blue loss on the front and rear edges and lower sides of the bolt from cycling the action. The stock is excellent overall showing an old arsenal overhaul with no noticeable handling marks. The infrared emitter, M2 scope, and battery all retain 98% of their original black finish with just minor edge and high spot wear. The power pack has been repainted on the outside and it has not been tested and the battery looks like it has not been charged. The bulbs and various other accessories all look like they are in new condition. An excellent example of a very rare early production, all original Inland T3 carbine
