Description:

Included with this arm is a set of correspondence between one Frank Knapp, arms collector, and Mrs. Joanne Stoller, maiden name Niles, regarding this carbine, which was presented to Mrs. Stoller's father, Walter John Niles. Originally an employee with the Electromatic Typewriter Company, he came on board with IBM in 1933 when they were bought out, and was the Manager of Plant Number 4 in Poughkeepsie, New York in 1944. According to Mrs. Stoller, this carbine was the last one off Plant #4's assembly line, and was presented as a gift to Niles, who retained it until his death in 1897, at the age of 90. "SI B" blade front and "I.R. Co." adjustable peep rear sights, with an undated "I.B.M. Corp" barrel, "KV B" Type I barrel band, round nickel bolt, stamped trigger guard, "EPB" pushbutton safety, "PR-B" magazine catch, and a smooth low wood stock with 2-rivet handguard, Ordnance cannon stamp on right buttstock, "LWB" in the oval sling cutout, green canvas sling and a plate on the right side of the stock marked "PRESENTED TO/ W.J. NILES/ BY IBM PLANT #4/ AUGUST 1944/ POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.".

Rating Definition:

Excellent showing 99% of the original presentation blue finish, with some mild edge wear and handling marks. The stock shows a few light pressure dents. Mechanically excellent.
