Manufactured in 1853, this Model 1851 Navy revolver features factory floral scroll, Gustave Young Shop engraving covering the sides of the barrel lug, rear upper barrel flats, frame, hammer sides, trigger guard bow and back strap. The top barrel flat is marked "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY", the left side of the frame is engraved "COLTS / PATENT" in a downward arch and the cylinder is roll engraved with the naval battle scene. The complete serial number, "23633" with a dot underneath, is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap with the nail punch dot above or below for designating factory engraving. Blade front and hammer notch rear sights. Blue barrel and cylinder, brass round trigger guard and back strap and casehardened remaining surfaces. Fitted with smooth ivory grips.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel has aged to a brown patina with approximately 15% of the original blue still remaining. There is some scattered overall minor pitting, nicks and dings. The markings and engravings are mostly clear with the exception of the cylinder where only some few traces of the naval scene still exist. The slightly undersized, shrunken, original ivory grips are fine and have aged yellow with few minor cracks. Mechanically very good. Looks like it just came out of an attic!
