This Third Model 1851 was manufactured in 1856. First type barrel marking ("--ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY--"), "COLTS / PATENT" on left side of frame, and naval scene on cylinder. Small round trigger guard with the screw on the loading lever entering from the left side, a later Third Model feature. Matching numbers on loading lever, barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, cylinder, and wedge. Fitted with a one-piece smooth ivory grip.

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal surfaces have a smooth grayish/brown mottled patina. Traces of original silver plating remain on the upper sides of the back strap and in the protected areas of the trigger guard. The exposed brass has a natural dark aged patina with "JAMES" scratched on the butt and "SA" near the trigger. There are some scattered overall dings. The cylinder scene is partially visible and there is some light pitting. The grips are good with numerous minor age cracks. The ivory has a pleasant mellow aged patina. The markings, unless noted above, are clear. Mechanically needs work.
