Description:

Produced based on the designs of Josef Nickl, who would later go on to play a major role in establishing the Czech arsenal at Brno, the 1912/1914 began development in 1909, in an attempt to match developments in martial sidearms, particularly Colt's then-emerging 45 ACP pistols and DWM's 9mm Parabellum Luger. Going through several changes and alterations in it's short life, the 1912/1914 showed great promise, but was cut short by the opening of hostilities of World War I. Due to the war, production of the 9mm variation ended at only a few hundred units, with the 45 ACP version being swept from the drawing board entirely. Adding insult to injury, what few 1912/1914s were produced were pressed into service in the trenches, where the brutal conditions all but wiped out the pistol. How this example survived, and in such pristine condition, is unknown. Fixed sights, with the address "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER A.-G.OBERNDORF A.N. MAUSER'S PATENT" along the left side of the slide. The full matching number is present on the slide and frame, with matching partial numbers on the barrel, takedown latch, slide catch, trigger and side plate. The magazine is numbered to another pistol, number 139. A fine high polish blue is present overall, with attractive niter blue on the latch, trigger, safety, rear sight and magazine floor plate, with a straw finished cocking indicator. Checkered one piece wraparound grips, with a steel-shod slot in the back strap. Included with the pistol is a hardwood stock holster, numbered to match on the mounting iron, main body and lid, with a checkered butt.

Rating Definition:

Near new, with 99% original blue finish, showing some light handling marks overall. Over 95% of the straw and niter blue finishes are also present, with vivid color. Grips are excellent, with mild pressure dents and scratches. Stock is also excellent, with light pressure dents. Mechanically excellent. An extraordinary example of a very scarce European auto-pistol. We believe this to be first 1912/1914 with a stock ever sold at auction.
