Description:

This is an excellent example of a 98K rifle as produced in 1940 in Oberndorf. The top of the receiver ring is marked with the wartime code "42 / 1940", with a Nazi firing proof and serial number on the left side and three eagle/655 Waffenamt proofs on the right side. The left receiver wall is marked "Mod.98". All receiver markings are highlighted in white. Besides the receiver there are other components stamped with eagle/655 proofs such as trigger guard, floor plate and barrel. A large Heer proof is stamped on the buttstock. Matching numbers appear on the receiver, barrel, bolt assembly, trigger guard, trigger guard screws, floor plate, stock, buttplate, and barrel bands, with a mismatched follower (06). Hooded front and tangent rear sights, slotted cleaning rod, leather sling, and smooth stock with a flat buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The rifle retains 90% plus original blue finish with some scattered minor thinning. The wood is very fine with the exception of an area of chipping on the handguard and a gouge on the forearm under the rear sight, along with some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
