Description:

This is an excellent, very scarce and desirable prewar Model 98/29 Mauser long rifle manufactured under commercial contract for the country of Persia (currently Iran). These commercial rifles were some of the best machined and manufactured rifles that were assemble by the Mauser factory. They are characterized by all machined parts, excellent European walnut with hand polished, deeply blued and hand fitted parts. The top of the receiver is marked with the large Persian Crest. The receiver markings and serial number are all in Farsi and all are matching, including the receiver, bolt and stock. The sights are the late pattern military tangent rear with a fixed front with the unique front sight ears only found on the Persian model rifles and carbines. The components are the early pre-war style with the milled "H" pattern front and flat rear barrel band. It also has the pre-war all milled style trigger guard and floor plate. The stock is the correct full length walnut version with the blank stock disc on the right side and the matching Farsi markings and serial number directly below that. It is complete with an original matching military contract bayonet and scabbard. The bayonet is the early pre-war Czech VZ24 pattern with the long 16 inch blade and matching serial number on the rear.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus. The rifle retains 99% original blue finish with much of the original grease on most parts. The stock is excellent with only a few light handling/storage marks. The markings are sharp. The action is excellent. The bayonet and scabbard are both excellent with a few minor dings on the scabbard and much of the original grease on the bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% thinning blue finish on the barrel, floor plate and trigger guard. The unfinished receiver and bolt assembly is a little dark from minor oxidation.
