Description:

This is a very nice example of an all original and unaltered, late prewar 1940 dated, "42 code" Nazi Mauser luger. Again, these early pre-war lugers saw extensive use in the early days of WWII when Germany was rolling into the various low countries and into Russia from which very few ever returned. All salt blued metal finish with checkered walnut grips. The chamber area is marked with the full date of 1940 with the new "42" code marking for the Mauser factory on the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension has the early double "eagle/ 655" proofs and the single "eagle/ swastika" firing proof, with both proofmarks also on the top rear section o the barrel. The left side of breechblock is also marked with "eagle and swastika" test/acceptance proof. The safety and extractor are marked "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" respectively. Complete with one replacement magazine that has the tin plated magazine body with the aluminum base, which is marked with only an "S/42" code marking with a single "eagle/154" proofmark.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% of the original blue finish remaining with only minor edge and high spot wear overall. The blue finish on the grip straps, trigger guard bow and right frame rail are just starting to show signs of thinning and blue loss, mixed with some browning. The grips are in very good plus condition with nice original checkering on both sides with light wear across the tops of the checkering, with some minor light pressure dents in a couple places with light wear along the lower edges above the grip screws.
