This is an example of a British New Sea Service percussion pistol manufactured circa 1844. The pistol was one of many manufactured with conversion flintlock parts from late flintlock muskets. The pistol features a 9 1/4" 78 caliber, smoothbore barrel with an iron swivel ramrod with button head. The pistol has a brass trigger guard, left side plate, forend cap and buttcap with iron parts remaining. The lock plate is stamped with the "crown / GR" and broad arrow ahead of the hammer and "TOWER" behind the hammer, the top of the barrel at the breech is marked with a Belgium Liege proof and the left rear is marked with a crown over crossed scepters and "crown/GP/broad arrow". Brass blade front sight and mounted with a full stock with a brass band behind the ramrod hole.

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled brown and gray patina. The brass has been polished at some time and remains bright. The stock is good with three minor cracks at the ramrod hole, (brass band used to repair) and overall a few minor dings and dents.
