Description:

Model 1911A1 Semi-automatic pistol manufactured by the Union Switch & Signal Co., of Swissvale, Pennsylvania, in 1943. The pistol has a gray Du-Lite finish with blued trigger. The barrel and magazine have a blue finish. The early style brown, checkered, Keyes Fibre stock lack reinforcing rings around the screw holes and have a mold number and Keyes five-pointed star on the inside. The pistol has a stamped trigger and checkered slide stop, safety lock and mainspring housing. The narrow hammer has a spur with borderless checkering. The High Standard barrel has "HS" stamped on the right side of the lug and "P" on the left side. The receiver, correctly is not stamped with the Ordnance escutcheon found on Remington Rand, Ithaca and some Colt Model 1911A1 pistols. The right side of the receiver is roll-stamped: "UNITED STATES PROPERTY/No 1075544" behind the slide stop hole and "M 1911 A1 U.S. ARMY" in front of it. The left side of the receiver is stamped the Ordnance final inspection mark that consists of the encircled initials "RCD". The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the "USS" monogram followed by: "U.S. & S. CO./SWISSVALE, PA. U.S.A." in two lines. A "P" proofmark is stamped on the left side of the slide just above the grip serrations and on the left side of the receiver below the magazine release. The magazine has a brush blue finish and is stamped "L" (M.S. Little Co.,) on the top of the floor plate lip. The Union Switch & Signal Co., manufactured 55,000 Model 1911A1 pistols during the single year of production, 1943. U.S. & S. pistols are very desirable in original condition.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The pistol retains 85% plus of the original Du-Lite finish and has all of the original components. Most of the finish wear is concentrated on the grip strap, bottom of the trigger guard, mainspring housing and the edges of the receiver. The slide shows high point wear. The barrel retains 70% of the original blue finish. The stocks have moderate handling wear and are in very good condition. The magazine retains about 85% of the original blue finish. This is a very good example of an original condition Union Switch & Signal Model 1911A1 pistol.
