Description:

This is an example of a desirable WWII Liberator pistol with the "F" inspector proof. These were produced by the Guide Lamp Division of General Motors from 1942-1945. They were intended as cheap and easy to produce, substitute single shot pistols that could be dropped behind enemy lines to the French resistance, OSS and SOE forces that would enable them to kill an enemy soldier and capture his weapon. This is a Model Three, three hole variation that was made from sheet metal stampings that were spot welded together on top of the smooth bore barrel. It has the cast zinc-aluminum cocking knob, located on the rear of the pistol with the alignment pin cast into the cocking knob. Some of these early model three pistols exhibited a small inspector "F" proofmark. Only a few of the first pistols were stamped with the letter "F", and they were usually found on the rear of the barrel strap below the chamber, on top of the barrel strap, and or upside down under the cocking knob. This pistol has a single circled "F" proof upside down under the cocking knob and a partial "F" visible on top of the barrel. This heavy cast aluminum cocking handle is rotated to the side to allow loading through a gate.

Rating Definition:

Good. The pistol has been cleaned with a wire wheel and shows overall minor pitting on the frame. The action is excellent.
