Description:

Manufactured circa 1883 - 1885. This rifle is a very rare variation with a 1/2 octagon barrel. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line address/patent dates ahead of the rear sight. The serial number is marked on the lower tang directly behind the trigger and the top of the lever is marked "+BURGESS'S PATENTS+". Brass blade front and replacement fixed rear sights. Full length magazine tube and mounted with a smooth forearm with steel end cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate with buttstock compartment. This was Colt's only attempt at a lever action rifle to compete with Winchester.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel, magazine tube and lever have a smooth mottled brown patina. There are a few vise/tool marks on the breech end, sides of the barrel. The receiver has a smooth mottled gray patina with a non-factory (period) sight groove cut into the chamber area. The wood is also very good with overall scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The markings remain clear and crisp. The action is very good.
