Description:

Presentation cased, commercial Colt Government Model 1911 Automatic Pistol that was manufactured in 1917. A brass, screw-fastened plate on the inside of the case lid is inscribed: "Presented to/Capt. Herbert F. Staples/-by-/Chas.A. Adams Frank H. Nutting/M.F. Bragdon W.D. Rockwood/Jas. R. Meaney Henry L. Russell/Fred L. Moses David Stern/E.C. Street/Sept. 6. 1917." in nine lines. The case is covered with black leather and is lined with dark green velvet. The pistol has the Colt high polish commercial blue finish. The barrel is blued with polished chamber top. The walnut stocks are checkered with an oil finish. The pistol is complete with two lanyard loop magazines with a two-tone finish. The right side of the receiver is roll-stamped: "GOVERNMENT MODEL/C 89246. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with the Colt "triangle/VP" proof mark. A "1" assembler's mark is stamped is stamped at the junction of the right side trigger guard and grip strap, The top of the receiver is stamped with the "S" production order mark behind the disconnector and a "1" assembler's mark to the right of the disconnector. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped: "COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE 45" in two lines ahead of the ejection port. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the Colt 1897-1913 patent dates in a two-line block followed by: "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO./HARTFORD,CT. U.S.A." in two lines. The Rampant Colt trademark is roll-stamped on the left side of the slide behind the grip serrations. Included with the pistol is a military marksmanship patch which consists of two crossed model 1911 Pistols embroidered on a circle of olive drab wool.

Rating Definition:

Near new. The pistol retains 99% plus of the bright original high polish blue finish has all of the original components. The pistol appears to be in near new, un-fired, condition. The barrel retains all of the original blue finish and has a perfect bore. The stock and stock screws are in near new condition and show no handling wear. Both magazines are in excellent plus condition and retain 98% of the original two-tone finish. The exterior of the leather case is in excellent condition; wear is limited to some minor scuff marks on the bottom of the case. The case interior is in excellent condition. Wear is limited to some light compression marks from the pistol stocks. The brass presentation plaque has all of the original lacquer finish. This is an outstanding example of a rarely encountered cased, presentation Colt Government Model 1911 semi-automatic Pistol.
