Description:

This unissued U.S. Colt Model 1911A1 Automatic Pistol was manufactured by Colt in 1942 and shipped to Springfield Armory as part of a lot of 3,350 pistols on August 3, 1942. The pistol has a parkerized finish with blued barrel and brown plastic checkered "Coltwood" stocks. The machined trigger has a knurled face, the slide stop, safety lock and main spring housing are checkered and the short, wide spur hammer has a knurled spur. The pistol is complete with a blued/parkerized magazine marked: "COLT/45 AUTO" on the bottom of the floor plate. The receiver feed ramp is bright. The right side of the receiver is roll-stamped: "UNITED STATES PROPERTY/No802487 behind the slide stop hole and "M1911A1 U.S.ARMY" in front of it. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with a "W" assembler's mark over the Colt "Triangle/VP" proofmark. The Ordnance final inspection mark consisting of the initials "W.B." in a rectangle is stamped below the slide stop. A "P" proofmark is stamped to the rear of the magazine release. A "P" proofmark is stamped on the top of the slide. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped with the elongated Colt 1897-1913 patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt trademark and "COLT"S PT. F.A.MFG.CO./HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." in two lines. The serial number, "802/487" is stamped on the rear of the slide above and below the firing pin hole. The barrel is stamped: "COLT 45 AUTO" on the lower left side of the chamber and has a "P" proofmark on the left side of the lug. A large "G" production order mark is stamped on the underside of the barrel ahead of the lug. The right side of the receiver correctly does not have the Ordnance escutcheon stamped on the right side of Colt Model 1911A1 pistols after serial number 830000. The early Coltwood grips have reinforcing rings around the screw holes and mold numbers on the inside but lack the interior strengthening ribs found on later grips. The pistol is accompanied by a U.S. General Officer's Model 1916 Holster and belt hanger. The holster is made of high grade russet lather and has gold-plated brass rivets, flap finial and belt hook. The holster, correctly, is not embossed with "US" on the flap and has no visible marker's marks.

Rating Definition:

Un-issued. The pistol appears to be un-issued and retains virtually all of the original parkerized finish. Considerable shipping grease remains on the pistol in protected areas. The barrel has nearly 100% of the blue finish and the bore is bright. All of the markings on the slide and receiver are crisp. The stocks are in near mint condition with perfect screws. The General Officer's Holster is in excellent plus condition and shows no service wear. This is a nearly new example of a early WWII production, "W.B." inspected Colt Model 1911A1 Automatic Pistol with General Officer Holster. One can only find one as good, but not better.
