This is a late WWII K98 rifle that was produced at the Mauser-Werke, A.G. Oberndorf facility and subsequently fitted with the short side rail sniper rifle system. This mounting system was originally intended for police use during the mid 1930s, and in 1941 was adopted for general combat use with the K98 rifles. The rifle is equipped with a K43 "ddx" (Voigtlander & Sohn A.-G., Braunschweig) code scope with a rubber eye piece, mounted on a phosphate finished stamped sheet metal mount numbered to the gun. The left side of the scope is marked "K43 / 81422 / ddx triangle". The top of the receiver ring is marked "Mod 98 / byf 45". The top and right side of the receiver ring is also marked with "eagle /135" proofs. The left side of the barrel is marked with the Nazi firing proof and the left side of he receiver is marked with the serial number behind the Nazi firing proof. There are "eagle /135" proofs on various parts and all visible numbers (partial and full) match. Hooded ramp inverted "V" front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 200 meters. Stamped rear barrel band (phosphate) and milled front barrel band, floor plate and trigger guard. Phosphate bolt with blue extractor. The laminated stock is marked on the right side with a Waffenamt proofmark and the buttplate is ill-fitting. The rifle bolt has the late war "Key" Safety, the cleaning rod is absent and it is fitted with a brown leather sling.

Near mint. The rifle retains 99% arsenal blue/phosphate finish with some thinning and a number of small dings on the barrel, and some flaking on the right side directly below the rear sight. The stock is near mint with the exception of some minor age cracks in the buttstock, otherwise there are only minor handling marks. The scope is excellent on the exterior with slightly cloudy optics. The markings are highlighted in white and remain crisp and clear. The sling is excellent. The action is excellent.
