Description:

Rare Texas salt glaze double handled slave jug. Cobalt blue stencil lettering advertising "H.W. Brown/Marlin, Tex." with a star with wings design in the center. According to research H.W. Brown was a doctor from the 1880s to turn of the century in Waco, Texas which is approximately 30 miles from Marlin. According to a 1906 newspaper account Dr. H.W. Brown was very ill. The jug is in fine condition and displays well. There is some flaking of the glaze near the shoulder and a few chips on the handle. H 18" W 11"
