Fantastic example of a six gallon salt glaze churn with cobalt blue decoration and dated "1870". This large hand turned churn is lined with a reddish Albany slip glaze and as two lug handles applied to the sides. A free hand cobalt decorated design is located on the front indicating this is a "6" gallon churn. Underneath the large collar in free hand cobalt decoration is the date of "1870". H 18" W 10 1/2"

The churn is in excellent condition with a few minor glaze pops that occurred during firing.
