Description:

Extremely rare five gallon salt glaze ovoid shaped churn dated 1866. The salt glaze churn has two large lug handles applied with a rib that runs around the churn near the handles. The large floral design is free hand in cobalt blue and is dated "1866" in the center of the piece. At the top an impressed block stamp states "M. White & Co, with a name of city that is hard to read" "5" is stamped below. The churn has a few glaze pops during firing and a few hairlines throughout the piece, a few chips are located on the rim and interior of the Albany slip glaze due to normal use. H 18 1/2" W 10 1/2"
