One gallon water jug with mustard colored glaze and a large applied handle at the top of the jug that is affixed to both sides of the shoulder. Two spouts at the top, a larger one for putting in water and a smaller one for drinking the water. On the front of the jug is the initials "C.P" in applied raised clay, beneath the initials in a block stamp is "1026" resting on an applied area that looks like it may resemble a railroad car. The raised applied railroad car is missing three quarters of the applied clay design. The seller of the jug provides the following documentation that states: The pottery water jug was "thrown" on a treadle/foot operated potter's wheel by Mr. Vet Woods in Buda, Illinois between 1885 & 1890. The jug was made for my paternal grandfather, Charles P. Pettis, and was used by him prior to 1900, on the Buda, Illinois to Rushville, Il branch of the C.B. & Q Railroad. The number on the jug is the number assigned to the steam locomotive my grandpa was assigned to. Grandpa was with the C.B. & Q over 40 years, and worked his way up to locomotive engineer. He operated a steam locomotive out of Peoria, Illinois. Signed by Everett R. Pettis. H 10 1/2" W 8"
