Description:

The helmet is constructed out of black felt with a leather band and brass cavalry insignia on both sides. The front plate is the "E. Pluribus Unum" eagle. The helmet has a gold horsehair plume. The interior has a leather sweatband marked "6 7/8" and plume the attaching hardware inside the helmet is stamped "RAYMOLD & / WHITLOCK".

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall, the black outer felt is really in nice condition overall with some minor dimpling and softening on the very top where the attaching hardware sits. The outer leather band, with some minor age cracking, along with a very minor tear on the band at the front. The front plate has an even aged patina and the plume is complete all around the top attaching piece.
