Description:

This is a nice example of an original, early 1937 production luger as manufactured by the Mauser factory. Approximately mid-way through 1937 the Mauser factory switched to an all salt blued finish, to speed up pistol production. However, this specific pistol was produced early enough that it still retains the rust blued finish with the straw colored various small parts. The top of the chamber is dated 1937 and it has the "S/ 42" code marking on the front toggle. It has the early style "Eagle/ 63" Waffenamt proofs on the barrel extension and underside of the barrel. There is a single eagle firing proof also on the barrel extension, barrel and breechblock. It has the standard "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" on the upper safety area and extractor, respectively. It is fitted with standard checkered walnut grips and is complete with one blue unmarked magazine with an aluminum base that is marked "5925w" with no proofmark.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 80% of the faded original rust blued finish overall with only minor wear on the edges and high spots. The various small parts retain traces of their original straw colors. There is a non-factory filler type screw present in the front of the trigger guard. The rust blued finish has taken on a dull spotty appearance overall from age or sitting in a holster, with some minor brown patina on the front and rear grip straps. The grips are in fine condition with nice sharp checkering overall with some minor wear across the tops of the checkering and on the back edges with some minor light pressure dents and dings on both sides. The pistol has all matching serial numbers except the magazine. A very nice example of an early 1937 production luger pistol.
